NOVEMBER 31, 2023 - I have never done a deep dive on the Spotify or YouTube numbers for "Drink Swear Steal & Lie" or "From Here To Eternity" before today. Thanks to my friend Crystal-lee Horton-Young for sharing this Spotify page with me. I had no idea there were so many streams. A few months ago a friend of mine at BMI told me the following: If you assume average song length is 3:30, any given song would have to be played continuously for six years to reach one million airplays. As far as I can tell from looking at YouTube, Spotify and traditional radio airplay combined, "Drink Swear Steal & Lie" and "From Here To Eternity" have been played over 26 and a half million times in the past 27 years. I feel so very grateful to all of you who have listened to my music and have written notes to me over the years to let me know what these songs have meant to you. From the bottom of my heart I thank you.

APRIL 12 – 16, 2023 – The National Veterans Creative Arts Festival is in St Louis, MO this year. This spectacular annual event is the culmination of a year-long competition sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the American Legion Auxiliary. Now in its 51st year, this event began with over 4000 entries from 180 V.A. Medical centers. Winning entries were then entered into the regional competition from which 120 gold medal winners were chosen. The event is filmed for broadcast on PBS during the week of Veterans Day each year. Michael Peterson has been the Master of Ceremonies for this event for the past 12-years. Previous emcees include Ernest Borgnine, Dr Joyce Brothers, Bo Derek and Jane Powell.

DECEMBER 1, 2022 - Over the years, some people have asked me “Have you ever recorded a follow up to ‘From Here to Eternity?” They told me they would like a song that would be about the same couple a few years into their marriage. This week’s “Have You Heard This Michael Peterson Song?” is that song.
Co-written with my producers Robert Ellis Orrall and Josh Leo, the song “Before Another Day Goes By” was a hidden track on the “Being Human” album. As a result, some of you may have missed this…until now.

Recognized for it's timeless truth and passion, her poem "AMERICA AT THE CROSSROADS" has won many national poetry awards and was read into the U.S. Congressional record by U.S. Senator Bill Nelson.
In 2019 this award-winning poem became the song “AMERICA AT THE CROSSROADS.” With the final words co-written by JoAnna O'Keefe, the late Tony Smith and Michael Peterson.
The timeless message and invitation of this lyric are particularly poignant right now. It is our fervent hope that this recording and video will help to stir the soul of patriotic Americans to unite.

APRIL 27, 2022 -The National Veterans Creative Arts Festival is the Department of Veterans Affairs premier national arts therapy event. Each year thousands of Veterans submit their art in the competition and over 100 gold medals are given to the top artists. The whole event is captured and broadcast on PBS yearly. This year marks the 11th year Michael and Jill have supported this extraordinary event. Here is a clip of Michael’s performance to close the stage show in St Petersburg, Florida.
APRIL 25, 2022 - This week's installment in the new series I call "HAVE YOU HEARD THIS?" features the demo of a song called "I Hope You Know What You're Doing." Here is a line from the song:
"I hope you know what you're doing. I'm starting to believe there's more to love than losing."
Love is a complicated experience and this song captures a piece of that "certain uncertainty" about as good as any I ever had a hand in writing.

APRIL 12, 2022 -For the past 11 years Jill and I have been serving the Institute For Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) out of Syracuse University. They have a variety of programs focused on raising up military veteran entrepreneurs. This past weekend they held their 24th V-WISE (Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship) conference. This time it was in Nashville. TN. This is my 22nd and Jill’s 23rd time to participate. Jill is the emcee for the opening ceremonies and a clinical on health and wellness. In addition to my music performance I help to create branding, programming. I also offer business coaching for attendees interested in a music career.

March 21, 2022 - We are so pleased to let everyone know that Michael has been selected to receive the prestigious “Special Recognition of Champions Award” during the annual Army Women’s Hall of Fame Induction ceremony in Ft Belvoir, Virginia. The “Special Recognition of Champions Award” is presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions supporting women in the Army or the Armed Forces.
In receiving this award, Michael and Jill are the first married couple to both be inducted in the Army Women’s Hall of Fame.

MARCH 15, 2022 - This weeks video features highlights from the three decades I have had the privilege of serving High School and Jr High School students around the world.
Some of you know this, many do not...I lost my birth father and my adopted father in violent shooting incidents when I was a teen. It profoundly impacted my life.
One of the positive outcomes of those difficult days is that I really have a heart for students and a desire to encourage them as they work through their own challenges. This video shows a brief overview of that part of my life's journey so far. Enjoy.

In 2018, I was invited to perform at the Pure Country music festival in Wolsztyn Poland backed by the fantastic European Union Band.
Founded by Magdalena Łuszczynska and Polish country music icon Michael Lonstar, this Festival is one of Europe's premiere country music showcases.
Here is one of my favorite musical moments of the evening: Danny O'Keefe's timeless classic "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues".
FEBRUARY 15, 2022 - This weeks "Music You Might Not Have Heard Before" feature is "72 Camaro".
I co-wrote this with Larry King, Joie Scott and Michael Thompson. "72 Camaro" was first released as a promotional video for HEAR Technologies during a recent NAMM show. This recording was ultimately released by the band Soliel Moon on Frontiers Records.
BIG THANKS to Joie Scott for introducing me to Larry King and for inviting me to join them on this writing session.
What a thrill to have this all star band (including a musical hero of mine Leland Sklar on Bass) playing on this recording. Wow!

“I’m A Soldier”
Written by then U.S. Army Sergeant's First Class Howard Smith and Howie John LaMirande, this recording was commissioned by the Army Office Of Strategic Communications. The head of that office at the time was a Colonel named Jill Willig Chambers. Yep. This was our first project together. BIG SMILE!
Produced by Josh Leo, the song and video were used for years by the Army at special events and the recording was featured on the U.S. Army field bands CD release "CALL TO DUTY".

JANUARY 18, 2022 - To kick off the new year I am launching a new video series where every two weeks I will post a music video of mine you may not have seen before. These will be rare clips from TV shows, live concerts and performance videos.
Here is the first: "I Remember America".
This timeless classic was written by the great John Stewart (Daydream Believer, Kingston Trio)
This version, with my updated lyric, is from my debut indie album on Beyond Records titled "In Black."
The song was used by the American Legion as part of a national fund raising campaign for "The American Legacy Scholarship fund". For nearly ten years I had the privilege of serving as the national spokesperson for this initiative aimed at ensuring children of fallen service members a tuition free college education.

JIM STEVENS: U.S. Military Veteran – A bullet fragment (A souvenir he brought home from Vietnam) suddenly shifted in his skull. He, immediately and permanently lost his peripheral vision. Such an occurrence would have immediately put an end to most artist’s careers. But Jim isn’t like most artists. He found a way to adapt.. Using special lenses combined with his extraordinary sense of touch, he invented to entirely new painting techniques. He used those techniques to capture me in this portrait. The painting appears to shift and transform as the viewer moves.

AUG 27, 2021 - The Commander and Executive Director of VFW Post 1 in Denver Colorado, Jim Stevens is partnering with Michael Peterson to launch the national “Portraits Helping Heroes” campaign. The goal is to establish a Veterans Arts Council Chapter in VFW Posts across the country, resulting in more opportunities for wounded Veterans to enhance their healing process using art therapy.
The campaign partners with well known, patriotic musicians and performers. A unique portrait of each performer (Michael being the first) is created by renowned artist Jim Stevens.
Each portrait will be given to one lucky winner of a random ticket drawing. There is no purchase required to enter the drawing but it is hoped that those who register for the drawing will make a donation while they are on the site registering for the drawing. Stay tuned for more details on this innovative campaign.
